David Tennant in Jessica Jones is Compelling as Hell

Jessica Jones, the Netflix-exclusive series starring the ever-charming Krysten Ritter was the latest entry to the MCU for the small screen.

Ritter, along with Dr Who David Tennant play Jessica Jones and Kevin Thompson/Kilgrave, respectively.

I'll get straight to the point.

Midway through watching Jessica Jones, the wife turned to me and said, "I actually feel sorry for Kilgrave". It was this that prompted me to want to write this article.

As you may have heard on the latest episode of the podcast I'm not a fan of Dr Who, but I appreciate Tennant's ability to portray not just an effective supervillain, but a character you feel sympathy for.

The ability to compel the audience to both hate you and root for you is no easy task; in fact, it takes a hell of a lot of talent and emotional range.

The remarkable thing here is that the powers he wields in JJ affect not only the characters within the show but the audience too. His character, Kilgrave, is a manipulative, narcissistic wanker, but damn he knows how to tug on your heart strings when the time calls for it.

In one episode, in an attempt to appease and woo Jessica, Kilgrave purchases the house she grew up in, and then makes it look exactly like it did when she was a kid.

It's this act which made us fans of the character immediately, and we could see that any attempt Kilgrave made to get closer to Jones was to be just that - close to her. That, in itself was enough for us to get behind Tennant's character.

If you haven't seen Jessica Jones yet, we highly suggest you do, because we know you're gonna find yourself rooting for Kilgrave.
