Seeing the unfinished footage at the Big Screen event not long ago was so exciting. Imagining what the film would be like in it's finished state was a good thought. Fast forward to August of 2012, and Total Recall releases.
In this remake helmed by Die Hard 4.0 Director Len Wiseman, Total Recall is very LOOSELY based on the 1990 classic.
Colin Farrell plays Doug Quaid, a factory worker with a life he's not happy with, and longs for something more badass and fulfilling.
K, so what was the verdict?
Well, the set design was admirable, as were the effects, but for a film this big, it was expected to be a larger-than-life experience and such. The slight changes instituted were a welcome touch, though maybe the rest of the film didn't benefit from this so much.
Though there were the subtle nods to the original, the new TR didn't do it much justice.
Although entertaining and fun to watch at parts, ultimately it became a film with little substance but had some acceptable action scenes.
Performances were, as expected way above average, and the film's somewhat close resemblance to it's counterpart made it worth watching, but it's biggest downfall? The lack of an 18 certificate. It made it annoyingly tame, resulting in some frustrating changes that could've been more effective had they been plastered with a more mature rating.
