Review for 'Chronicle' (2012)

This film could've gone a number of ways. it could've been a trainwreck, or it could've been one of the best Superhero Films to grace the big screen in a while. It was none of these. More in the middle, more than anything else, but it was leaning more toward the 'best' side of the scale.

Toward the beginning of the Film the concept seemed promising, and it was, but unfortunately some of the VFX used in the film really seemed quite amateurish, though most of the 'flight' scenes were quite convincing.

The absence of a score added more authenticity to the 'found-footage' aspect of the film, but filling the void was some fantastically produced SFX, which made it feel (and sound, of course) great.

The performances were nothing particularly exciting, and there were small spells of cliched lines/performances, but nothing but nothing that was detrimental to the film overall.

Chronicle delivers some brilliant action scenes as well as some beautifully rendered VFX (for the most part) and great sounding SFX.

Performances: 5/10

Visuals: 7/10

Plot: 7/10

Overall: 6/10
