Review for 'Contagion' (2011)

I can't believe this was a film I was excited for.

I'll get right to it. Now let me get one thing straight- I'm not saying this was a bad flick, it just wasn't what I was expecting. The problem here was, a lot of the good stuff was featured in the trailers/TV spots for the film, so I guess it's my fault for hyping it up so much.

Let me just re-iterate- it wasn't a bad film by any means, it was because I hyped it so much that when I had actually gotten to watch the film, I was disappointed; it fell way below my expectations.

I can't fault the performances; they were as one would expect them to be from long-time performers Gwyneth Paltrow, Jude Law, and Matt Damon. But, with no direction and a lackluster plot, I was left with a pretty big empty feeling by the end.

The first three quarters of the film were promising, as was the concept of the film, but when the first three quarters are bridged into the final quarter, that's when things went a little awry.

It was primarily the ending that was disappointing more than anything, but it felt like I was waiting for something to happen throughout. Obviously, the climax was, well, anti. Climax. Anti-climactic.

The concept had a lot of potential, as I said, but unfortunately fell flat at it's time of need.

Performances were delivered exceptionally, but with no direction in which to go, Contagion greatly suffered.
