Dexter is a unique show. It's probably one of the most entertaining shows on (American) TV right now, and there aren't a lot of them. Off the top of my head, I can think of a handful of shows that are in the same league, in terms of entertainment value, but I don't think there are any characters that can compare to the character of Dexter Morgan.
Although at first glance, it doesn't seem like Dexter is capable of any emotion whatsoever, but as the seasons have progressed, we discover that Dexter is capable of a myriad of emotions(and aliases). It's this part of Dexter's character and other factors about the show that make me want to continue watching this remarkably unique show.
Today though, I'll be talking about Season 6, and a little outline of what's going on.
This season (Season 6) certainly feels a lot more tame than I'm used to, it just felt a little... toned down in both gore and profanity, but all of this was masked by the high level of storytelling that was going on.
The addition of Colin Hanks & Edward James Olmos (as Travis Marshall and Professor Gellar, respectively) is one that I'm a little indifferent about as of now. It's not that I dislike the performers themselves, but more of a 'not liking what I don't know' kind of deal. It's not a 100% clear what their motive/s is/are, but the coming episodes will hopefully clear things up and reveal a lot more than what we know now.
This past episode (Smoky and the Bandit) was somewhat of a momentous one for Debra Morgan, as she finally gained the sense of authority she has long deserved. Not only that, but with the addition of a new face in the department, we can damn well expect weight to be thrown around somewhere.
It's been a little slow so far, but we're only three episodes in, so I can't really expect much-yet. There are questions that now need to be answered, like what exactly Travis and Prof. Gellar are working toward, how Deb's future in the PD is going to work out now there's a new face, why exactly Masuka's assistant/apprentice/human blow up doll took a piece of evidence from the Ice Truck Killer case, and what Brother Sam (played by Mos Def) is exactly capable of.
This is shaping up to be a good season, and we can only expect good things from here. Hopefully.
