Kazed Reviews: Cowboys and Aliens (2011)

I got a chance to watch this film at the EMPIRE BIG SCREEN event in London this past Weekend with fellow writer, Muni.

Hmmz. Where to start with this baby. Initially, I thought the film was great. Now, after letting it sink in for a couple of days, I have mixed reactions.

For the most part, C&A was an action-packed, visually stunning film. But beneath this façade, if you will, was really quite a hollow film. Don't get me wrong now, I enjoyed it enough to want to buy it on DVD/Blu-ray, but something just wasn't right here.

Maybe it had something to do with the abs ent explanation as to why Daniel Craig had such amazing prowess, or that Olivia Wilde was relatively wooden(I'm talking about her performance, kids).

Favreau hasn't disappointed in this, but one can't help thinking the story could have been better. The pacing was fine, it was the way in which the story itself was delivered.

Cast members Daniel Craig and Olivia Wilde worked well together, but the problem was that Olivia's part in the film was obvious from the outset, and I think this was due to her slightly monotonous performance(you'll understand once you watch it).

Cowboys & Aliens contained all elements that a successful film should have: humour, action, sex appeal(?), cowboys, and aliens. Oh. I made a connection.

Anyway, enough banter.
