First off, I'd like to apologise for the lack of activity on Movieville.org the past week or so, there's been a lot of problems off set!
Going into watch X: First Class, I had relatively no expectations, but knowing that Matthew Vaughn (Stardust, Kick-Ass) had directed it was enough for me to want to watch.
James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender undeniably had the best chemistry in the film, and casting them for Charles Xavier/Professor X and Erik Lehnsherr/Magneto, respectively was a stroke of genius.
I definitely thought this was one of the best Marvel adaptations to date, and definitely tops the past X-Men films, ESPECIALLY that atrocity Wolverine, probably the worst film in the franchise. Although, strictly speaking, the film is actually supposed to be both a reboot AND a prequel to the original franchise, so I suppose this technically isn't a part of the franchise... or is it?
Performance-wise it was quite strong, apart from the wooden acting from January Jones, playing the hotness that is Emma Frost, and Jennifer Lawrence playing Mystique. Slightly disappointed with Lawrence's performance, seeing as Mystique was quite a prominent character in the film.
X: First Class was an outstanding film with a few minor flaws, but other than that, it was a great film to start the 'Summer of Blockbusters'.
Oh, by the way, don't make the mistake of waiting after the credits for a special bonus, it won't come.
I give this, a 8.5/10.
