Due Date (2010) review

I have to admit, I had high expectations of Due Date from the trailer so I was kind of expecting to be let down (it always happens with movies I'm super excited about!) However, by approximately minute five I knew this was going to be awkward, hilarious, disgusting, sexual.... Everything I had hoped for!

the complete juxtaposition between the two main characters played by Zach Galafinakis and Robert Downey Jr was just perfect. We have all gotten used to Downey Jr's arrogant, womanizing roles which he seems to play so often these days (Sherlock Holmes, Iron Man 1&2) so it was quite refreshing to see him being a grumpy (albeit extremely sexy) old man. Galafinakis was perfect as an irritating overly camp man, but added a bit of naivety which made everyone like him, despite the fact that he was an irritating overly camp man. He was genuinely hilarious.

The only negative aspect for me was the subplot where it is hinted that Downey Jr's wife had an affair with his best friend nine months ago. His best friend was black, so when the wife gave birth, everyone was sort of expecting to see a mixed race baby. Nothing comes of this subplot, it doesn't add to the story, I personally found it a bit pointless.

The story was perfect, and absolutely hilarious. The highlight of the film for me - When Downey Jr PUNCHES a child. That's right! Punches. Brilliant.

If you like movies such as Superbad, Pineapple Express and Stepbrothers, you should go see this now. 9/10
